GENERAL INFORMATION:
I.D. Cards must be presented each time you enter the facility.  The fitness center is open for all authorized patrons, 16 and over - Active Duty personnel, Reservists, Retirees, and their Dependents, Veterans (100% disabled) and DoD civilians.  Contractors, Retired DoD civilians & Veterans (who are not 100% disabled) are not allowed to use fitness center.  Fitness center age authorization charts are available at the front desk (on right-hand side of this webpage to download).

Locker rooms, showers, indoor track, basketball and racquetball courts are available for use.

John H. Chafee Fitness Center 24/7 access is open to Active-duty personnel, Reservists, Retirees, Dependents (18+), Veterans (100% disabled) & DoD civilians.  Patrons must participate in an orientation prior to first use.  Orientations are on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays from 12 to 5 p.m.  Sessions take approximately 15-minutes.  
 
 

ELIGIBLE PATRONS:
Active Duty personnel, Retirees, Reservist and their Dependents, Veterans** (100% disabled) and Dod civilians* 
Guest entrance fee: $5.00.  Guests are not allowed Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* DoD civilians can only sponsor immediate family members.
** Veterans (100% disabled) can not sponsor anyone.

 

COMMAND RESERVATIONS:
Are on a first come, first served basis and are not guaranteed until a MWR Fitness Representative confirms it.  There is a 24 hour turnaround time for confirmation requests received Sunday through Thursday and 72 hours for requests received Friday, Saturday or the Sunday prior to a Monday Holiday.  PRT reservations are accepted eight - ten weeks prior to PRT date.  Organized non-sport command physical training sessions are accepted up to four weeks in advance. There are no civilian court reservations. For command reservations at the John H. CHafee Fitness Center, download form and submit it to chafeereservation@gmail.com.

One-on-One Sessions
Functional Movement Screening (FMS): Active-duty Personnel: Free; All Others: $30.
1 - 60-minute session  AD: $40  others: $50
4 -  60-minute sessions  AD: $140 others: $160
8 -  60-minute sessions  AD: $250 others: $290
12 - 60-minute sessions AD: $310 others: $370

Small Group Trainings (Min: Two patrons Max: six patrons)
1 - 60-minute session  AD: $15;  others: $20
4 -  60-minute sessions  AD: $40;  others: $60

MWR INSTRUCTOR GUIDELINES:  
All commands may schedule a class led by an MWR Instructor.  MWR needs a minimum of seven days to process requests for instructor-based classes to ensure an instructor can be scheduled.  Forms may be submitted two-four weeks prior to the requested date.  Ten person minimum is required.  You can pick from any group exercise, yoga or NOFFS format.  Some specialty classes, such as Yoga, may depend on instructor availability.

 

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES:
Group fitness daily fees - Free for Active Duty personnel, Retirees, Reservist and their Dependents, Veterans (100% disabled). 
$5 per class for DoD civilians.  All classes are first come, first served.


RACQUETBALL COURTS:
Reservation for courts must be made the day of (first come, first served).


YOUTH ORIENTATIONS:
Orientations are available 7 days a week, but sign-ups are required.  Fill out a youth orientation form at the John H. Chafee Fitness Center.  Children ages 10-14 years old may use the fitness facility after receiving a youth orientation from a certified fitness specialist.  The program is intended to introduce youths and their guardians on how to exercise in a safe and supervised environment.  After completion of the program, the youth can use all authorized cardio and/or weight equipment with the supervision of a parent or legal guardian.  *Refer to MWR Naval Station Newport Fitness Age Authorization Chart.

 

 

 

This MWR facility is open to Active-duty personnel, Reservists, Retirees, and their Dependents, Veterans (100% disabled) and DoD civilians.  Contractors, Retired DoD civilians & Veterans (who are not 100% disabled) are not allowed to use fitness center.  MWR has gone cashless, all major credit cards are accepted.
